Little Picassos · Art for ages 2 and up

Big ideas, small hands, lots of colour.

A process-art program for childcares, schools and camps. Children paint, print, sculpt and collage their way through a new theme every month, and every artist goes home proud of something they made.

Inside a class

Five simple steps, every class

Young children do their best work when they know what comes next. Every Little Picassos class follows the same shape, so the energy goes into creating.

1

Gather and wonder

A story, a picture or a real object, like a pair of mittens or a pinecone, opens the day's theme.

2

Explore the materials

Children touch, squish and test the paint, paper, clay or dough before they start.

3

Create

Each child makes their own version. They choose the colours and tools, and we show a technique, not a template.

4

Share

Artists hold up their work and tell the group about it. We ask, “Tell me about your painting!”

5

Display and take home

Work dries on our drying rack, then goes up on your wall or home in a backpack.

Our approach

Process over product

There's no “right” way to paint a galaxy. We show a technique, then step back and let children explore. Instead of “that doesn't look right”, you'll hear “tell me about it!”

  • Fine-motor and pre-writing skillsTearing, gluing, lacing and brushwork build the small muscles children need for holding a pencil.
  • Colour, shape and textureMixing colours, finding shapes and feeling textures introduce real art concepts like symmetry and pattern.
  • Choices and problem-solvingChildren pick their colours and tools and decide what comes next, which builds independence.
  • Confidence and prideWe praise effort and ideas, never “neatness”, so every child feels like an artist.
Questions

Good to know

What ages is Little Picassos for?

Ages 2 and up. In childcares we plan for toddlers and preschoolers; school-age children join our after-school art clubs and camp art days. Every project is adapted to the age and stage of the group.

Isn't art class messy?

A little, and that's part of the fun! We bring smocks, table covers, wipes and a drying rack, and we tidy up before we leave.

What materials do you use?

Washable, non-toxic paints, crayons, pastels, glue, clay and dough, plus natural materials like leaves and pinecones. We bring everything, so there's nothing for your team to buy or prep.

Can you work around allergies?

Yes. Tell us about any allergies when you book and we'll adapt the materials. Salt dough, for example, can be swapped for a different project.

Do children take their art home?

Yes. Pieces dry in class, and we can leave them for a classroom display first if you'd like.

Who teaches Little Picassos?

Every instructor is carefully selected and trained by Busy Minds in child development, class management and our process-art approach.
